Michael Doherty organised the excellent demo ABOLISH THE IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission) on Mayday 2012.
It had the amazing response that Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Home Select Committee, announced an inquiry into the powers and future of the IPCC.
Until this happens, please note:
- Keith Vaz MP is one of the sponsors of the Early Day Motion (EDM) that John Hemming MP tabled in March 2011: Royal Commission on Policing
- this EDM has been signed by 92 MPs so far who are obviously all well worth informing about any complaint people may have
- furthermore the members of the Home Affairs Select Committee are also worth informing.
And finally, know that the Royal Commission into New South Wales Police in 1996 resulted in three volumes: corruption, reform and paedophilia!

The IPCC was set up under the Police Reform Act of 2002. In that Act are the rules governing the IPCC. The IPCC DOES NOT ADHERE TO THOSE RULES!. Eg. The rules clearly state that when a complaint is made directly to the IPCC, the IPCC MUST investigate it and MUST NOT refer the complaint back to the police force about which the complaint was made UNLESS THE COMPLAINANT is CONTENT for it to be so referred. THERE IS NO MEANS upon the Complaint form for such a choice. In fact when I questioned the IPCC about this, I was told that unless I signed the form giving my consent for the complaint to be referred to the police, my complaint would not be given consideration.
I am currently having to sue the City of London Corporation for the misconduct of officers in its police force. Next hearing is on 11 July 2012 at 10.30 in the Mayors and City of London County Court.
