Currently signed by 23 MPs, this is the text of Early Day Motion 374:

That this House notes

  • the instigation of an independent inquiry into historic child abuse by the Home Office which aims to investigate concerns that public bodies and other institutions have failed in their duty to protect vulnerable children from sexual abuse;
  • further notes that the terms of reference as set out by the Home Secretary propose that the inquiry will not take evidence from individual victims,
  • instead collating previous reviews to produce a lessons learnt report;
  • believes that, unless revised, this approach will severely compromise the ability of the inquiry to achieve its stated…

  1. Renata Ostertag says:

    Canada has now his very own “Jim Savile” case. His name is Ghomeishi. The CBC (= BBC in UK)knew about it for years and only now fired him. He – Ghomeishi – beats up his dates and then says “it was consensual”.Hope, the creep gets it- big time.

    • The other useful thing that MPs can do is to get Ministers to answer questions.

      The questions that need to be asked are:

      1. Kent Council have announced that they will take less children into care. How many other councils will follow suit?

      2. If Councils get paid to take children into care, can they get paid to release them when the children and parents wish to go home?

      3. What are the Government’s plans for STOPPING forced adoptions which are contrary to all other EU countries?

      4. Whilst the National Inquiry is supposedly being organised, what are the Government’s plans to compensate survivors of abuse?

      Tweeting and retweeting re #CSAinquiry and #childsexualabuse also makes a difference.

      THANKS for your help!

  3. Roger Gough says:

    Have e-mailed Geoffrey Clifton-Brown (Cotswold MP) at 10.30pm. He didn’t sign the original petition which got this enquiry rolling – let’s hope he’s had time to see sense.

  4. T Birks says:

    Not to take evidence from individual victims will mean that any evidence against individual wrongdoers will never come to light. This is not acceptable, the reasoning behind this must be explained to the people.

  5. Sheila Gardner says:

    Hi Sabine,

    My MP Mrs Heather Wheeler doesn’t sign EDMs. I have asked her before and she said she never signs them. I asked her to sign an EDM about the bedroom tax and she said she agreed with the bedroom tax because the government has to save tax payers money. She is a big recipient of the tax payers trough and it is relevant to her cause –which is herself.

    Kind Regards,

    Sheila

    • Well, in that case, it’s worth asking her to ask Ministers questions, preferably with WRITTEN answers, e.g.
